Frequently Asked Questions
How does the theme detector work?
Our Shopify theme detector analyzes the source code of any store to identify which theme it's using. The tool looks for information in three main places:
- Theme meta tags - Shopify includes meta tags with the theme name and version
- JavaScript and CSS files - Each theme has unique patterns in its asset files
- HTML code structure - Popular themes have identifiable elements
The process is completely automatic and takes only seconds. You just need to enter the store's URL (example: mystore.myshopify.com) and our system will do the rest. It works with stores from any country and detects both free and premium Shopify themes.
Which Shopify themes does it detect?
Our detector identifies the most popular Shopify themes, including:
Official free Shopify themes:
- Dawn, Debut, Brooklyn, Narrative, Supply, Minimal, Venture, Boundless, Simple, Express, Motion, Refresh, Taste, Studio, Sense, Craft, Ride, Crave, Origin, Publisher
Popular premium themes:
- Prestige (Maestrooo), Streamline and Impulse (Archetype Themes), Empire and Symmetry (Pixel Union), Turbo and Warehouse (Out of the Sandbox), Testament (Clean Canvas)
The database is constantly updated to include new templates. If a store uses a custom or heavily modified theme, the detector will indicate it as "Custom Theme". We also detect the theme version and the original author/developer.
Is the detector free to use?
Yes, the Shopify theme detector is 100% free and unlimited. You can analyze as many stores as you want, without needing to register or provide your email.
There are no hidden fees, we don't ask for credit card information, and there are no usage restrictions. We created this tool to help entrepreneurs and e-commerce developers research themes and make better decisions for their projects.
If, after using the detector, you need help implementing or customizing a theme for your store, we offer Shopify design and development services. But using the detection tool is completely free, always.
Can I see competitor themes?
Yes, you can analyze any public Shopify store, including those of your competitors. This is a completely legal and common practice in e-commerce. In fact, studying which templates successful stores in your niche use is an excellent strategy to:
- Identify design trends in your industry
- Evaluate theme options before investing in a premium one
- Analyze the competition and see what tools they use
- Find inspiration for your own store's design
Keep in mind that we only detect the base theme. If a store has made extensive customizations (custom code, special apps, unique sections), those modifications will not be evident in our analysis. The detector shows you the original template upon which the store is built.
Remember: copying exact designs is unethical and can have legal consequences. Use this information for research and informed decision-making, not for plagiarism.
