Section: TikTok Reels

Everything you'll need to know on how to setup your TikTok Reels section.

Written by Cartiafy Team Updated April 2026

The TikTok Reels section displays a horizontally scrolling carousel of vertical 9:16 short-form videos — exactly like the TikTok feed — with optional product tagging that lets shoppers add the featured item directly to their cart while the video plays. Perfect for showcasing influencer content, product demos, or unboxing videos right on your storefront.

Adding the section

To activate this section you first have to add the section to your page. This can be done in a few small steps.

1) Click on Add section which can be found in your left sidebar.

2) Scroll down, or search for TikTok Reels, then click on it.

3) Done — your TikTok Reels section is added.

General settings

The general settings contain the heading, layout, carousel, and autoplay setup of the TikTok Reels section. Simply click on the section to open the settings.

Color scheme

Select the color scheme for the section. You can pick from any of the schemes set up in Theme Settings → Colors. Controls the heading text, caption text, Follow button colors, and the product card background.

Content

Heading

The text shown above the carousel, rendered as an H2 tag. For example: Watch us on TikTok, Our latest reels, or Featured products. Leave empty to hide the entire header (heading, subheading, and Follow button).

Subheading

Smaller paragraph below the heading. Optional — leave empty to hide.

TikTok handle

Without @. Type only your username (e.g. cartiafy), not the URL. The section automatically builds the link as tiktok.com/@your-handle. The Follow button only appears when this field is set; leave empty to hide it.

Layout

Padding top

Space above the section in pixels (0–120). The default 60 px works for most pages. Reduced to 40 px on screens 750 px or narrower.

Padding bottom

Space below the section in pixels (0–120). The default 60 px works for most pages.

Carousel

Infinite loop

Tick this box to make the carousel wrap from the last reel back to the first seamlessly. When unticked, navigation arrows disable at the start and end. Default: on.

Autoplay

Enable autoplay

Tick this box to automatically advance the carousel from one reel to the next. Heads up: this only auto-advances the slides — the videos themselves never play automatically. Visitors must click each video to start playback.

Autoplay speed

Time spent on each reel before advancing, between 2 and 15 seconds. Higher values give viewers more time to watch the visible reel. Default: 4 seconds.

Adding reels

Each reel is an individual Reel block. Click Add block inside the section and choose Reel. Aim for at least 5 reels so the desktop carousel feels complete (it shows 5 at once on wide screens).

Video

Select a video from your media library. A vertical video uploaded directly to Shopify Files. Best performance and full feature support. Recommended: 9:16 aspect ratio, H.264 MP4, under 30 MB.

External video URL

YouTube or direct MP4 URL. Used only if no video is selected above. Paste a YouTube watch URL or a direct MP4 link. YouTube videos render via iframe; direct MP4 URLs use the native HTML5 video tag.

Thumbnail

Preview image shown before the video plays. Recommended: 600 × 1067 px (9:16 portrait). If empty, the video's first frame is used (Shopify videos) or a built-in placeholder is shown.

Show caption

Tick this box to display the caption above the video before playback. Captions auto-hide when the reel starts playing to keep focus on the video.

Caption

Short text shown above the video. For example: Watch how I style this look or Behind the scenes. Auto-hides when the reel starts playing.

Featured product

Shown when the video is playing. Pick a product from your store catalog. A glass-style product card slides in over the video while the reel plays, showing the image, title, price, and an Add button. Click the card to open the product page or click Add to add the variant to the cart.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't the videos play automatically?

The videos themselves never autoplay on page load — visitors click the play button to start each reel. This is by design to comply with browser autoplay policies and to respect mobile data usage. The Enable autoplay setting only controls the carousel sliding, not the video playback.

Why isn't the Follow button showing?

The Follow button only renders when the TikTok handle field is filled in. Add your username (without the @ symbol) and the button will appear automatically next to the heading.

I tagged a product but the product card doesn't appear.

The product card only slides in after the reel starts playing. Click the play button to trigger it. If the product was deleted from your catalog, the card is hidden by design.

What's the difference between Video and External video URL?

Video uses a video uploaded to Shopify Files — best performance, full feature support, and no third-party tracking. External video URL embeds a YouTube or MP4 URL — only used as a fallback when the Video field is empty. Always prefer Shopify-hosted videos when you can.

The unmute button doesn't work on my YouTube reel.

YouTube iframes use a restricted API that limits external mute and unmute control. The button works on Shopify-hosted videos and direct MP4 URLs. For YouTube reels, viewers can unmute via the YouTube player controls instead.
