Everything you'll need to know on how to setup your Rich text section.

Written by Cartiafy Team Updated April 2026

The Rich text section is a flexible block of text content for your store — perfect for brand storytelling, mission statements, welcome messages, or any narrative content. You can mix and match a subheading, a heading, body text, and a button, in any order, with up to 4 blocks total.

Adding the section

To activate this section you first have to add the section to your page. This can be done in a few small steps.

1) Click on Add section which can be found in your left sidebar.

2) Scroll down, or search for Rich text, then click on it.

3) Done — your Rich text section is added.

General settings

The general settings contain the layout and spacing setup of the Rich text section. Simply click on the section to open the settings.

Color scheme

Select the color scheme for the section. You can pick from any of the schemes set up in Theme Settings → Colors. Controls the section background, heading color, body text color, and button colors.

Layout

Content alignment

Text alignment for all blocks inside the section: Left, Center, or Right. The button also follows this alignment. Default: Center.

Maximum width

Maximum width of the content in pixels, between 400 px and 900 px. Smaller values create a tighter, more readable column for long-form text. Larger values give wider lines, better suited for short content. Default: 700 px.

Spacing

Top padding

Space above the section in pixels (0–120). The default 60 px works for most pages.

Bottom padding

Space below the section in pixels (0–120). The default 60 px works for most pages.

Adding blocks

The Rich text section supports four block types — Subheading, Heading, Text, and Button. You can add up to 4 blocks total, in any combination and order. Click Add block inside the section to choose a type. Drag-and-drop to reorder.

Subheading block

A small label shown above the heading — perfect for category labels, eyebrow text, or tagline-style intros. For example: Our Story, Featured collection, or Welcome.

Text

The subheading text. Plain text only — no formatting. For example: Our Story.

Style

Visual style of the subheading: Normal (regular weight), Uppercase (all caps with letter-spacing — great for editorial labels), or Italic (italicized for a softer, narrative feel). Default: Normal.

Color

Optional custom color for the subheading. Useful when you want the eyebrow to pop in a brand accent color. Leave blank to use the color scheme's foreground color.

Heading block

The main title of the section. Supports inline rich text — bold and italic words for emphasis. For example: Tell your brand story.

Heading

The heading text. Inline bold and italic are supported within the editor. Default: Tell your brand story.

Heading size

Visual size and HTML tag of the heading: H1, H2, H3, or H4. Use H1 only when the section is the main title of the page; otherwise H2 (default) is the safe choice for SEO and visual hierarchy.

Text block

A paragraph of body content. Supports rich text — bold, italic, links, and lists. Use it for the main narrative content of the section.

Text

The body text. Bold, italic, links, and lists are supported. Keep it focused — for long-form content, split into multiple paragraphs to keep the rhythm easy to read.

Font size

Body text font size in pixels, between 14 px and 22 px. Default: 16 px. Increase to 18–20 px for hero-style storytelling sections; keep at 14–16 px for compact informational text.

Button block

An optional call-to-action button at the end of the section — for example: Shop now, Read the story, or Learn more.

Label

The text shown on the button. Keep it short and action-oriented — 1 to 3 words read best (e.g. Shop now, Learn more).

Link

Where the button links to — a collection, product, page, or any URL on or off your store.

Style

Visual style of the button: Primary (filled, high contrast), Secondary (filled, lower contrast), or Outline (transparent with border). Each style maps to your theme's button settings under Theme Settings → Colors.

Size

Visual size of the button: Small, Medium, or Large. Default: Medium. Use Large when the button is the main CTA below a hero-style heading; Small for inline secondary actions.

Tick this box to open the button link in a new browser tab. Useful for external partner links so visitors stay on your store. Default: off.

Frequently asked questions

Can I add more than 4 blocks?

The Rich text section is capped at 4 blocks total to keep the section visually balanced. To add more content, simply add a second Rich text section right below the first — they stack seamlessly.

Can I add multiple headings or paragraphs?

Yes — within the 4-block limit, you can add any combination of block types. For example: 2 Heading blocks + 2 Text blocks, or 1 Subheading + 1 Heading + 2 Text. Drag-and-drop to reorder them.

How do I add multiple buttons?

Add multiple Button blocks (within the 4-block limit). Each Button is an individual block, so you can place them at the end of the section or interleave them between text blocks. They will all follow the section's Content alignment.

Can I use HTML tags in the heading?

The Heading block uses inline rich text, which means you can add bold and italic styling on individual words via the editor toolbar — but not links or lists. Use the Text block for content that needs links or lists.

What's the difference between H1, H2, H3, and H4?

H1 is the largest and meant for the main title of a page (use only once per page for SEO). H2 is the next-level title for a section. H3 and H4 are smaller, for subsections. The visual size also follows your theme's heading scale.
