Installing the Cartiafy theme

Step-by-step guide to install and activate Cartiafy on your Shopify store.

Written by Cartiafy Team Updated April 2026

Welcome to Cartiafy! This guide walks you through installing the theme on your Shopify store, previewing it without affecting your live storefront, customizing the look, and publishing when you're ready. The whole process takes around 10 minutes.

Step 1 — Add Cartiafy to your store

From the Shopify Theme Store, click Try theme on the Cartiafy listing. The theme is added to your store as a draft (unpublished). Your live theme stays untouched.

Step 2 — Find Cartiafy in your themes library

Go to Online Store → Themes in your Shopify admin. Cartiafy now appears in the Theme library section as an unpublished draft.

Step 3 — Customize without going live

Click the Customize button next to Cartiafy. The theme editor opens. Spend as long as you need configuring sections, uploading images, choosing color schemes, and connecting your products and collections — none of this affects your live store.

Step 4 — Preview the storefront

Use the Preview button (top-right of the theme editor) to open the draft theme in a new tab. The URL includes a ?preview_theme_id=… parameter so you can browse the entire site as visitors will see it. Share the preview link with collaborators to get feedback before publishing.

Step 5 — Pick a preset (optional)

Cartiafy ships with multiple presets (color and layout combinations). To switch presets, click the theme's ⋯ menu in the theme library and choose Choose theme style. Each preset matches a specific demo style.

Step 6 — Publish when ready

When you're happy with the look, click Publish next to Cartiafy in the theme library. Visitors immediately see the new theme on your storefront. Your old theme is automatically demoted to the library — keep it as a backup or remove it.

Tips for a smooth setup

1. Configure colors and typography first. The whole theme inherits your Theme Settings. Set those up before you customize sections so the visual identity is consistent everywhere. See the Color schemes and Typography articles for details.

2. Use the demo as a reference. The published demo (cartiafy-demo.myshopify.com) shows exactly how each section can look. Match the structure on your homepage, then replace with your own content.

3. Test on real products before publishing. Add at least 5 sample products with images, variants, and prices. Browse the storefront preview to see how product cards, badges, and the cart drawer look with real data.

4. Configure social media globally. Add your Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other social URLs in Theme Settings → Social media. The Header, Footer, and Announcement Bar all read from there automatically.

5. Set up filters and search. If you sell many products, install Shopify's Search and discovery app and configure filters before publishing. The Collection page renders whatever filters you enable.

Frequently asked questions

Will installing Cartiafy delete my products?

No. Themes only control the visual presentation of your store — they don't touch products, collections, customers, orders, or apps. Switching themes is non-destructive. Your products are safe.

How long does the trial last?

You can keep an unpublished theme in your library indefinitely. The Try theme trial lets you fully customize the draft. To make it live on your storefront, you complete the purchase from the theme library.

Can I switch back to my old theme?

Yes. After publishing Cartiafy, your old theme stays in the library as an unpublished draft. Click Publish on the old theme anytime to revert. Customizations to each theme are saved independently.

Do I need a Shopify Partner account?

No — buying and installing a theme uses your regular Shopify merchant account. Partner accounts are for theme/app developers and freelancers building stores for clients.

What if I have a custom development on my old theme?

Custom code (Liquid, CSS, JS) is theme-specific — it doesn't transfer to a new theme. If you have customizations, port them to Cartiafy after install. Most third-party apps with theme integrations need to be reinstalled per theme via the app's settings.
